半小时后，埃迪的对讲机传来声音：“He’s coming”。麦蓝十分紧张，不知接下来将遭遇什么变化。在刚刚半小时时间里，他们一直静静等待没有再多说任何话，高明赫侧着脑袋，目光低垂，视线远远避开玻璃容器里的斯嘉丽。麦蓝眼泪已经快哭干，但依稀想起刚刚马修杨说斯嘉丽还没有死，勉强燃起一丝希望。
皮鞋脚步声越发清晰，实验室大门徐徐打开，一个西装革履的中年男子出现在门口。麦蓝感到不对劲。她在新闻照片里见过威廉·摩尔，他应该是深色头发，皮肤没有这位白，也没有这位年轻。
“I said,I want to meet the president.”高明赫冷着脸，“Not him.”
“You could tell me everything,young man.”金发男人走到高明赫身边，示意身旁保镖将他手腕上的镣铐解开，伴随脸上和善的微笑，“Nice to meet you, Go…Go Myeong-hyeok?Did I just pronounce it correctly?”
面对眼前这位不知身份男子的示好，高明赫并没有接受。男子摊开的手掌在空中尴尬停滞三秒，最后收回去：“Young men like you are always so stubborn.”他耸了下肩，转身走到马修杨的身边，此时麦蓝注意到马修杨脸上露出十分轻松自得的神态，大概了解他们是一伙儿的。
“I\'m not the president, but as secretary of state,I think I have the qualification you need.”金发男人微微昂首，用意味深长的目光打量高明赫，“So,now,tell me everything you know please.”
“No.”
“Wow.”金发男人失笑，甚至鼓起了掌，“Then we might as well not know. Is there anything we need to know? Matthew, what do you think?”他看向一旁的马修。
马修推了推镜框：“I don't need to know anything else, Mr.Secretary. I have a reasonable suspicion that these Eastasian spies are just trying to stall for time.”
马修杨开始不分青红皂白给他们俩安上东方国间谍的身份，状况陷入极其不妙的境地。高明赫紧抿着唇一言不发，很显然他并不愿意把事情告诉眼前这位和马修杨统一战线的国务卿大臣。
麦蓝紧张到满头大汗，虽然她不理解为什么高明赫只愿意向总统和盘托出，但肯定有他的原因。眼看马修杨和这个国务卿就要以“Eastasian spy”的罪名处置他们，忽然麦蓝脑海里闪现出杰西卡的面孔。
secretary of state…国务卿，这不是杰西卡他爸吗。难怪她看这人第一眼就感到面熟。
麦蓝灵机一动大喊：“Taylor!”
金发男人愣了一下，看见这个东方面孔的年轻女孩盯着自己。
“Mr.Taylor!I know you!”麦蓝心脏砰砰乱跳，但强行镇定，“I know your daughter,actually she's my friend.”
汤姆·泰勒皱眉一笑，对她莫名其妙的套近乎感到好奇，“So what?”
麦蓝说：“I am Jessica's roommate, we live together almost every day and I know her everything.”
汤姆并没有感到任何威胁，脸上仍保持笑容：“Fine,so what?”
“I said I know her everything.Including the fact that…”麦蓝深吸一口气，走到汤姆身边，踮起脚尖，“she is a lesbian.”
她声音很轻，但汤姆还是听见了。那一瞬间他脸上神情色彩纷呈，整个人被雷击中般呆滞。马修杨皱眉：“What?What did she say?”
汤姆不再像先前那样神采奕奕，脸色煞白：“So what?”
“So you better bring the President here or I'm going to tell everyone that the Secretary of State's daughter is a lesbian.”麦蓝继续威胁，“I really think it may be very detrimental to the development of your political career.”
果然这件事命中他的痛点。汤姆警惕地扫视周围，这里除了他们几个之外还有不少保镖。麦蓝只要这么喊一嗓子，所有人都会知道。
除了他之外其余人都不知麦蓝究竟说了什么。马修杨有些失去耐心，他不清楚为什么汤姆突然畏缩，直到汤姆攥紧拳头走向一旁的保安，冷声宣布，“Call the president,right now.”
“What? What did this girl tell you?”马修杨不可置信，追了汤姆几步。
汤姆冷冷推开他，大步离开实验室。
麦蓝松了口气，心里隐隐对利用了杰西卡感到抱歉。
高明赫忍不住问：“你刚刚究竟说了什么？”
麦蓝摇摇头：“不告诉你。”
再次等待半小时后，他们终于如愿见到安吉利特的总统，威廉·摩尔。
果然和新闻照片里长得一样。
威廉将马修杨请出实验室，只留下两个保镖。他走到高明赫身边，再瞅了眼麦蓝，微微蹙眉：“So two of you both come from Eastasia?”
“To be precise, we are from another universe.”高明赫说，“Something you must know,Mr,president.”
“My partner and I come from Angelato in a parallel universe. I was actually commissioned by the president of my world to save the Angelato in this universe.”高明赫简单地说。
“The president of your world?”威廉皱眉一笑，“Me?”
“No.”高明赫摇头否认，“Richard·Harrington.”
威廉神色一凛。
“In the early stages of the presidential election three years ago, you were obviously so far behind in the vote, but you still unexpectedly became president. Don't you think it's strange?”高明赫反问。
威廉陷入沉默，许久后点了点头：“What do you mean.”
“I mean,Richard did it on purpose. He gave you the presidency.”高明赫重复，“Gave.”
威廉感到无奈：“You know you’re talking nonsense.”
“No,”高明赫皱眉笑，“I want to say that perhaps the Richard in this world means nothing to you. But the Richard in that world is orchestrating your every action. It's more accurate to say he rules over this Angelato than you do.”
安吉利特总统每四年选举一次，威廉摩尔在过去数十年间多次连任，但近十年间显然力不从心。就在三年前的那次大选里，前期选票，威廉远远落后于理查德，但在后期迅速反超。而那段时间里，并没有任何负面新闻出现，也没有任何额外宣传。即使蹊跷，也没引起太多人质疑。毕竟威廉有多年总统经历，在绝大部分选民眼里，无论如何他都是实至名归。
高明赫递给威廉一份文件，包含有关“卓越”计划的所有细节。威廉拧着眉头大致翻阅一遍，几分钟后却将文件还给了高明赫：“I'm sorry, but I still tend to believe that you and your companion are spies from the Eastasia.”
说完他站起身准备离开，两个保镖立刻将麦蓝和高明赫牢牢抓住。
“Wait a second!”
高明赫冲他的背影大喊，可威廉没有要停下的意思，直到他喊出：
“You must know Allen·Xu,don’t you?”
果然威廉停下脚步。
“The Xu family disappeared about ten years ago, don’t you want to know the reason?”高明赫挣开保镖的禁锢，冲到旁边一座玻璃容器前。他按下容器旁边的按钮，浑浊的灰绿液体逐渐澄清。
威廉瞪大眼睛，注视容器液体里浸泡的年轻女孩，过了足足一分钟才说话：
“Scarlett?”
“Yeah, Scarlett·Xu,the daughter of your best assistant.”
威廉震惊到语塞，许久后才咽了下嗓子：“But, they've been missing for many years.”
“Don’t you want to know why Allen and Xu’s family disappeared for no reason?And why did you send so many people to look for them for so long and still not get any clue? Aren't you curious about it?”
威廉盯着液体里的斯嘉丽，隔着玻璃容器，轻轻抚摸许久。他似乎沉浸在旧日回忆里，随着目光一点点柔软，最终接受高明赫所说的一切，“Fine.”他叹了口气，“Tell me everthing.”
