The Prejudice Against Women
“It\'s normal for girls to be bad at math.” “Liberal arts is more suitable for girls…” People often say such things in life. Prejudice against women is a pervasive issue that has affected the entire female population throughout history. Unfortunately, prejudice against women is still prevalent in our society today.
The reasons for prejudice against women are complex. Historically, women in China were expected to fulfill traditional gender roles, such as being a wife and mother. Confucianism, which has had a significant impact on Chinese culture, reinforced these gender roles and emphasized the importance of male superiority. So in some people\'s minds, women should be born in a subordinate position. This also leads to many stereotypes of women, such as women are always associated with words such as weak, virtuous and so on. Today, some media’s mispublicity still exacerbate prejudice against women. In order to gain benefits, many media tend to deliberately highlight the gender of women when choosing headlines for news. For example, when a car accident is caused by improper driver, if the driver is a woman, the media will usually report it as \"the accident caused by the female driver\", while if the driver is a man, the media will report it as \"the accident caused by the driver\'s error\". And this kind of news will easily make people form prejudice against women, such as women are not suitable to be drivers, female drivers often cause car accidents and so on.
The prejudice against women exists in many ways, but it is particularly pronounced in employment. In job interviews, many young female candidates are often asked if they are married and if they plan to have children. They rarely ask these questions of male candidates of the same age. For many, getting married and having children has the biggest impact on women\'s careers, but not men\'s. Because in their prejudice, women naturally assume more responsibilities in marriage and child rearing than men, taking care of children will take up most of women\'s energy and cause them to lose their full attention to work. In career advancement, it also takes more effort for women to become leaders. Because a lot of people have prejudice against women, they don\'t think women have strong leadership. The proportion of women in senior positions is very low. For example, only 27% of members of the United States Congress are women, and only 7% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women. This lack of representation perpetuates the idea that women are not capable of leadership roles, and their voices are not heard in decision-making processes.
Obviously, this prejudice against women is wrong and harmful. Eliminating such prejudice requires the joint efforts of multiple groups. Most importantly, the government should introduce policies to stop prejudice against women in employment. In fact, the Chinese government has been making continuous efforts to this end. It has not only introduced a number of relevant policies, but also made legal safeguards. It is also essential to eliminate prejudice through proper education. Improve the rate of female education, and popularize correct concepts in the process of education to eliminate people\'s prejudice against women. Just as Ms. Zhang Guimei founded Huaping Girls\' High School, education is the best way to change people\'s minds.
In conclusion, prejudice against women is a pervasive issue that affects all women. It\'s an age-old bias, and changing it requires all of us to work together. By fully recognizing the problems caused by prejudice against women and by continuing to work to eliminate prejudice and solve these problems, even though the road is long and difficult, we can gradually make our society more equal and friendly.
