2、final assignment ...

  • I would like to talk about an issue that my parents and I disagree on morally.
The question I want to talk about is, if a poor salesman is trying to sell you something of poor quality that you don\'t need, do you buy it.
In my view, if the goods they sell is useless to me, I wouldn’t buy it even though the salesman told me he is very poor. However, my parents always bought something they tried to sell. For my parents, if a salesman tells them about his unfortunate experience and hopes them can buy some of his goods to help him,
it is immoral not to buy under such circumstances, regardless of whether my parents need the goods or not.
Then I will use two things to illustrate the difference between us and analyze the reasons for the difference.
A few days ago, on my way back to my dorm, a young woman stopped me and told me that her family was in a remote village and had lost a lot of money in business. If she didn’t sell all the pens, she would be fired by the company she worked. But the pens she sold are of low quality and expensive, and I am not short of pens. So I just told her I didn’t want to buy pens.
However, something similar happened to my parents. About five years ago, for example, two laundry soap salesmen came into our yard on a hot summer day. They told my parents that the laundry soap was of excellent quality and spent a long time describing how poor they were. Even though we didn\'t need that much soap and my parents knew it was probably of poor quality, they bought a lot of it anyway. Well, the quality of laundry soaps was really bad.
I think it\'s just a marketing ploy. Salespeople take advantage of people\'s sympathy for poor people and force them to buy a lot of expensive and useless goods. They make a profit out of it. Therefore, I do not feel it is immoral to refuse to buy their products outright.
However, my parents think that it is impolite, even immoral not to buy some products when a salesman introduces the product to us and tells us that he is poor, whether it is a marketing technique or not. In fact, I can understand why my parent have this view. When they were young, their lives were not rich, even poor. They had experienced the hardships of life, and then with the development of The Times and their hard work, their lives gradually became a little better. When they heard about the sufferings of others, they wanted to do something to help them. Besides, in my parents\' opinion, if someone introduces you to a product for a long time, they will feel ashamed if they don\'t buy it. In China, many middle-aged people have this concept, which is called \"好面子\" in Chinese.
This concept is deeply rooted in the minds of many Chinese people and is hard to change, so I can only respect my parents\' opinion.
