12、III.多余的双生词2

　　将多余的双生词对于我们判断它们是非常有效的，以下分类是文章中最常出现的：
　　1.双生词中两个词表意几乎完全一致
　　2.双生词中某一个词的意思隐含或包含了另一个词的意思
　　3.双生词中某一个词的意义过于笼统模糊，和另一个词难以区别开。
　　下面是每种类型的一些例句和适当的修订版。
　　1.双生词中两个词表意几乎完全一致
　　A：this is the only road leading to affluence and prosperity这是唯一通往繁荣富强的道路。
　　B：this is the only road leading to prosperity这是唯一通往繁荣的道路。
　　A：although the road before us is rough and bumpy，尽管我们面前的道路是崎岖的，
　　B：although the road before us is rough，尽管我们面前的道路是崎岖的，
　　A：a country that wants to develop needs to pay close attention to maintaining extensive international contacts and dealings with all kinds of people 一个想要发展的国家需要密切关注维持广泛的和国际各方面人士的交流来往。
　　B：a country that wants to develop needs to maintain extensive international contacts with with all kinds of people一个想要发展的国家需要维持广泛的和过几个方面人士的交流来往
　　[复习：pay close attention to密切关注是在第一部分提到过的不必要的引入动词+名词的短语]
　　A：even if problems do emerge，they can easily corrected or solved就算问题真的出现，也能轻易纠正解决。
　　B：even if problems do emerge，they can easily solved就算问题出现了，也能轻易解决。

　　2.双生词中某一个词的意思隐含或包含了另一个词的意思
　　A：despite the chinese side’s best and thorough efforts towards that end无视了中方对此做出的全方面的最大努力
　　B：despite the chinese side’s best efforts无视了中方所作出的最大努力
　　[best最好的，最多的包含了thorough全面的，详尽的
　　toward that end也是一个不证自明的词语]
　　A：biographical background data should be correctly evaluated and comprehended传记的背景数据需要准确评估了解。
　　B：biographical background data should be correctly evaluated 传记的背景数据需要准确评估。
　　[你不能再不了解的情况下去评估一件事，evaluated隐含了comprehended]
　　A：the boom has prompted the country to consider and work out ways to use such investment这阵风潮促使这个国家考虑并制定使用投资的方案
　　B：the boom has prompted the country to work out ways to use such investment这阵风潮促使这个国家制定使用投资的方案
　　[你不可能在不考虑可能事件的情况下决定使用怎样的方案，consider隐含在work out里面了]
　　A：to interfere with and undermine the Sino-British talks去阻碍暗中破坏中英谈话
　　B：to undermine the Sino-British talks去暗中破坏中英谈话
　　[去undermine talks暗中破坏谈话就是指用特殊方法interfere with妨碍谈话]

　　3.双生词中某一个词的意义过于笼统模糊，和另一个词难以区别开。
　　A：bilateral relations will continue to grow and develop further双边关系会继续进一步地提升。
　　B：bilateral relations will continue to grow 双边关系会持续提升。
　　[develop发展是一个非常不明确的词对grow生长的意思完全没有作用
　　复习：further进一步的意思已经由continue to 持续表达了]
　　A：the working class should help to further and develop production...工人阶级有助于进一步发展产品
　　B：the working class should help to expand production...工人阶级能帮助扩展产品
　　[develop发展产品是可以过得去的，但是更准确的用法是expand，并且在这句话的结尾还有development，英文也不喜欢重复相同的词语。而further是一个意思过于广泛的词，和develop和expand都没有什么很大的区别]
　　A：he calls for strengthening and building the Party他呼吁加强建设党。
　　B：he calls for strengthening and expanding the Party他呼吁加强并扩大党。（这里我真的不知道怎么用词...）
　　[这里的两个词都很模糊，很难区分词义，但是如果building是意为扩展人员的话，用expand会更好]
　　A：we should strengthen and improve the system我们需要强化提升系统
　　B：we should strengthen the system我们需要强化系统
　　[重申，既然两个词都没有什么特别的含义，表达了同样的意思：strengthen强化系统和improve提升系统是一样的。如果中文原稿中写的是两个不同的意义，那么译者需要找到更好的英语来表达这个含义，而不是用这两个词]
