19、诀别书——Serendipity ...

  • 第三幕 Serendipity

Continuing from the previous text(接上文), it was still that first day of school.

It was a relief to finally get through the process of handing in the homework.

The head teacher gave the order, "Everyone out of the classroom now! We'll rearrange the seats."

I've never been picky about my seat. I'm used to sitting in the last row. I'd actually feel a bit uncomfortable if I were moved to the second-to-last row.

As required, everyone lined up in two rows, boys and girls separately. But Tu Liao, this person, didn't know what to do. He was originally in the middle to the back of the line. Maybe due to height differences, he kept moving back one by one.

At first, I didn't pay attention. When I turned my head to look, I compared from front to back and found that the possibility of him being my deskmate was quite high. The head teacher had already assigned the seats from the front to the back one by one.

When the class teacher got a little closer, I began to scan quickly.

Fortunately~fortunately~Tu Liao and I weren't in the same group.

The head teacher is still distributing the tasks.

Standing behind me, Wang student was still gossiping(八卦): "You and Tu Liao haven't made up yet?"

"No, of course not. Shut up."

I kept telling her to speak softly, fearing that Tu Liao might overhear.

Looking up again, the head teacher was almost at my position.

According to the normal order, it should be me and the classmate sitting next to Tu Liao before me. Sheng Qiu who was standing in front of me was moved to another seat.

And……the next one to come was me.

The head teacher came up to me and gently pinched the sleeve of my school uniform.

      "Just with……you!"

I turned my head sideways, following the direction indicated by the head teacher's finger.

      That was.……hmm? ! No!

      Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

      That was Tu Liao.

I didn't dare to look into his eyes, but I knew full well that he must have been extremely embarrassed and bewildered as well. He must have felt the same way as I did, unable to show it openly, unable to resist and unable to say it outright.

I was at the end of the line, so I was quite close to the classroom's back door. But to avoid bumping into Tu Liao, I took a big step forward towards the front door after hearing that and cursed loudly in my mind a few times, hoping that the head teacher hadn't heard me.

In the class, almost everyone was packing their schoolbags and changing their seats. Some were happy while others were sad. I could really understand how they felt.

Walking through the vast crowd towards the back row of the classroom, every step felt so heavy and oppressive. It felt as if the sky had collapsed. I really couldn't imagine what kind of "dark and gloomy" (暗无天日)and "speechless" (哑口无言)learning life we would have together with Tu Liao every day after we became classmates.

Sheng Qiu noticed Tu Liao. He entered the class at the same time as me through the back door. Her eyes told me that she had knownx everything.

Tu Liao and I were packing our schoolbags slowly and unwillingly.

Fortunately, there were no more seats available.

Surely, it was not just the two of us who had no seats.

When most of the students had taken their seats, the head teacher soon noticed our confusion.

"Tu Liao and Mu Ziji are together, right?" In an instant, the whole class turned their heads, not knowing why it seemed that the whole class knew that we had fallen out. At that moment, I was extremely embarrassed and stood there dumbfounded. So was Tu Liao. Wang student was just sitting there with a look of watching the show, waiting to see what would happen next.

There was a countertop at the rear right corner of the classroom, for storing miscellaneous items like towels and rags used in the class. We ended up sitting there. Fortunately, there was that countertop, and we became the front and back row students.

It was simply unbearable. It was not like that at all.

Student Wang was tall and was right next to me. He kept making eye contact with me frantically and I felt extremely embarrassed.

Fortunately, such a seating arrangement didn't last long. During the afternoon parents' meeting, my seat was moved to the other end. Wow, that was so great. I was so willing to do so.

The magical seats were not only that. After some time, the overall structure of the classroom seats changed. The two outer rows were occupied by one person each, so those who were talkative couldn't easily find someone to chat with. However, the "ghosts" didn't leave(阴魂不散), and Tu Liao was right in front of me............

This was how Ling Qingyan put it. She was the witness to our relationship from start to finish. She said, "You two just kept avoiding each other in all kinds of ways, but somehow you always managed to run into each other."(你俩就是变着法子不见到彼此,但偏偏怎么都能遇到。)

This fate is so hard to get rid of. It keeps coming back no matter how hard one tries to eliminate it.(这该死的缘分啊,斩不尽,杀不绝的。)
