4、Little Women ...

  • Little Women Book Report
Little Women was created in the 1860s against the backdrop of the American Civil War. Louisa May Alcott is an American female writer and a feminist. Her book, Little Women, shines with family warmth and sisterly affection, as well as deep thoughts on women\'s rights. Little Women is the story of four different March sisters in pursuit of their own different ideals. In this book report I\'m going to focus on Jo and Beth in my mind after reading this book.
Beth was always a little angel. She is shy and retiring, and seems only fit to live in her own world. Because of her timid nature, she could not even go to school and had to study at home. She didn\'t have any big dreams or ambitions. When the four sisters talked about their dreams, unlike her sisters, s□□ hoped everyone would live a healthy and happy life together. She always took care of everyone well and offered to help the nanny with housework. What touched me most was a small thing. She would take good care of her sisters\' unwanted dolls and fix them patiently. Unluckily, Beth, who was so kind and lovely, passed away so young. While caring for a sick baby from a poor family, she contracted scarlet fever and eventually died early. This is one of my favorite roles. I think there are some people in our lives, just like Beth, who don\'t stand out or even go unnoticed sometimes. But they were gentle and kind to everyone.
Joe is a more complex and admirable character. Joe grew up independent, advocating freedom and dreaming of becoming an excellent writer. At the same time, she is extremely responsible to her family. She sold her long hair without hesitation when her father was ill and needed money, always thinking of the happiness of her sisters. Joe\'s story is the author\'s own autobiography. Much of it comes from the author\'s own experience. Therefore, I will discuss my understanding of Joe based on the author\'s own experience and the creation background of the novel.
Louisa was born on November 29, 1832, in Germantown, Pennsylvania. Her father, Bronson Alcott, was a self-taught philosopher, school reformer, and utopian in Concord, Massachusetts. He was so absorbed in the pursuit of ideals that he could not afford his family life. Louisa\'s writing style was heavily influenced by her father. Like the author, Jo believes that love is not the only thing in a woman\'s world. In an internal monologue, Jo says, I just feel like women, they have minds, and they have souls as well as hearts. And they have got ambition and they’ve got talent as well as just beauty. And I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. But I’m so lonely. At the end of the novel, Joe marries a professor and starts a school. In my opinion, this ending is not the one the author wanted to write, but a compromise to the publisher and the era. Most people at that time always believed that a woman\'s marriage was her greatest value. I liked Joe\'s ending more in the movie version. The movie has an open ending, and it\'s not clear whether Jo marries the professor or not, but she manages to publish a novel with a female protagonist who doesn\'t end up getting married. I think that\'s the kind of story Luisa wanted to write. That\'s part of the charm of Joe\'s character-- the pursuit of independence, advocating freedom and continuous struggle for women\'s liberation movement.
It is because of the continuous struggle of these feminists that today\'s women have the opportunity to become the protagonist of the story, to display their ambitions and pursue their dreams, and not to be confined to family and marriage. All in all, Little Women is a great and profound work, although the ending is a little regrettable.
