Mayalla stood there under the bright morning sky. In front of her was the broad stairs that lead up to the second floor platform. She could see the red brick walls of her school buildings just standing there in silence. The morning air was still, she could hear the water from the fountain toppling from the top of the stairs, gathering in the tiny pond at the foot. A few fish swam in the tiny pond.Mayalla picked up her pace heading toward Building D. As she was entering the halls of first floor, she tripped. And her pencil case fell out of her bag ,open. She scrambled up grabbing for it. She peered in. It was still there. The two small green cards stuffed neatly in. They were called Nice Cards, a small green card with a student's name and a teacher's signature given by teachers to reward students of their well behavior." They don't pass them out so often nowadays"Mayalla thought," And these are the only cards Mrs. Wilson ever passed out. It will break my heart to lose them."
She got up again and walked more slowly this time. Two teachers walked pass her, talking and laughing. They didn't even glance at her." They probably know I'm here for extra winter vacation Spanish lessons." She thought as she hurried along. As she turned a corner, a familiar figure faded into view."Caroline!"Mayalla screamed and almost tackled her best friend to the ground.
"CAREFUL. We are almost late for class." Caroline said smiling. Mayalla grinned " You are here for French class, aren't you? Where is your brother?"
"Byon? He is up ahead."Byon is Caroline's twin brother, he takes Friend lessons with his sister, while Mayalla studies Spanish. Everybody at their school has to learn another language besides Chinese and English.
" It suddenly occurred to me, it's our last year." Mayalla piped up.
" What? But we are still in just in the 8th grade."
"Yeah, but after next term,we are all gonna be regrouped into new classes. Even though we are in the same school, it will be difficult to see each other again."
Caroline was deep in thought. They were already halfway up the stairs.
"It's not you,"Mayalla added quickly,"I will see you every day if I want to.It's…"Her mind jumped to the two Nice Cards in her pencil box.
"Oh don't worry, you will see her again. She knows you."Caroline whispered as they reached their classrooms." Oh gosh, I see my teacher. Meet you after class."
Mayalla pulled open the door to her classroom and sat down next to Cecilia." You are almost late today, what's up?" Cecilia asked curiously." O□□ a little bit of traffic jam."Mayalla answered half heartedly, her mind still on the conversation she had with Caroline. She really, really hoped Mrs. Wilson could know about and approve of her love to her subject. This is the last term before they all got separated, and she hoped everybody could keep the best memories of each other, even years after.
