下一章 目录 设置
1、第 1 章 liv ...

live for the day, but it’s over.
the moment you die, you leave all your troubles and hopes behind.
that was what you were told when they had decided your life would be dedicated to something.
the thing about living is that there is no way you can know if someone else will die in your position. no way of knowing who their next victim may be, no way of seeing what their future holds. only hope is placed in you by yourself, and then everyone else follows suit because you are supposed to be doing the job.
sometimes though, things don't go according to plan.
there has been a couple occasions where you have not thought out how the next day might play out in advance.
like today.
you and your coworkers had gone in early, and were just putting up some posters on the walls in preparation for the crowding later. you didn't mind so much; it wasn't like you really liked your job. you got paid, sure, but it wasn't exactly the best job you could find.
and you did your best to stay quiet during work hours, but when you were in charge of setting up the posters around the school, well…
it wasn't hard to get loud sometimes.
"oh my gosh," you said, as you finished placing one of your flyers. "look." You grabbed hold of the poster closest to you and turned it over. on the back it said "WELCOME TO THE HIGH SCHOOL!" written in bold black letters, and underneath was an image of a smiling face with big, round eyes and fluffy brown hair.
"oh man, look at the smiley faces," a guy from another team whispered beside you. he was standing just a little bit too close for comfort, his shoulder almost touching yours. he seemed a little awkward, shuffling his feet in place every once in awhile and looking down into his hands. you weren't exactly fond of this guy, but he didn't seem so bad, and it didn't take more than five minutes before you realized you felt comfortable enough in his presence to say hi.
"...hey!" you exclaimed, waving him off, turning your attention back to the poster above you. it still read "WELCOME TO WEDNESDAY! THE HIGH SCHOOL PARTY!"
"huh?" he said, turning to look at you. you pointed towards the poster and then back at him.
"the school party," you repeated, pointing towards the poster again. "look." you held it close to his face, moving it slowly. he gave a small chuckle.
"yeah," he replied. you laughed, too, nodding your head in agreement.
"that's right!" you agreed. you moved it forward a few inches again and then back again. "see? even the smiley faces are cute."
you heard someone snicker behind you and glanced over your shoulder to see who the hell that noise came from. you were shocked to see none other than your new teammate. your mouth formed into an 'o' shape and your eyebrows raised into your hairline. the guy noticed your surprise, and quickly waved you down.
"sorry," he called out.
"no problem," you answered, shaking your head.
he smiled slightly, his cheeks reddening slightly. it looked like he wanted to laugh, or at least smile, but □□ couldn't seem to make himself do it. he shifted his weight between his legs awkwardly and cleared his throat.
! your friend, who happened to be standing nearby, walked up and nudged your shoulder. "i guess you'll never guess who our boss is," she whispered into your ear, winking. you grinned back at her and rolled your eyes.
"what now?" you asked. you turned back to face him, waiting for him to respond.
"well, the principal wanted us all to come to lunch to meet him," he explained, scratching his chin. you nodded, still waiting for an answer.
"so, we're meeting him here?" you asked. he shrugged.
"yep."
"oh boy, i'm glad we're going to school together."
you didn't mean to sound so sarcastic, but that's exactly what it sounded like to you. this was not how you'd planned on starting the rest of your day, especially since you'd already spent the last two weeks preparing for university applications and studying for the tests that were coming. you were excited to start classes on Monday, but now you were having to wait until the first day of junior year. you' d probably spend a whole lot of time stressing out before then.
"me too," he agreed, nodding his head. "we're definitely going to have a blast!"
"great," you mumbled, rolling your eyes. you crossed your arms and waited. "okay then…"
before you knew it, you were getting ready to walk away from your desk.
"thanks again, man, for hanging around," you said to your coworker. "good luck on your own exam." you started making your way over to the door, but stopped for a moment after opening it to turn and give him a quick wave goodbye. he nodded in return and waved back.
as you walked away, a sudden voice broke through the silence that had settled over the room. your friend was laughing loudly at whatever joke the person sitting on her left had just told her, but you had tuned them out. you were already feeling drained. this entire event had been a complete failure. you hadn't even learned the name of the teacher yet, nor had you actually found anything of value to help you prepare for the exams.
your heart sank, and you sighed. "ugh," you said under your breath. you pushed open the doors of the classroom you shared and made your way inside, ignoring the students milling around and sitting down at their desks.
once you finally found your seat and sat down, you opened up your planner and started scribbling notes onto a fresh page. you were already mentally exhausted from working such long hours and worrying about college applications. you closed your book and looked up to meet the gaze of the woman sitting in front of the class. she was blonde, wore glasses and wore a pair of reading glasses perched perfectly on the end of her nose, which contrasted with her long curly hair that was pulled back into a tight ponytail.
