The Voice from People’s Heart
“Look at her! What is she carrying?”
“Is this violin ?No, too big for a violin. What is this?”
“Cello ?What? Why carrying the cello to the airport How can she take it on the plane? Book a ticket for that huge stuff! God bless me not to seat beside her……”
It was quiet in the airport, but it was not “quiet” in Alice’s brain.
Because she heard all the words when people are thinking.
She loves cello. And that was the reason why she brought the cello on the plane.
But now, she was afraid that she could not play the cello any more.
And that’s the reason why she went abroad to study music.
On the stage, she can hear all the “noises” from people’s heart.
“She’s disgusting! Why she’s still there”
“She made Joe leave and now the orchestra sounds terrible.”
Joe’s left had nothing to do with her.
However, it was useless to explain the condition to them and Alice didn’t think “they” would believe it.
After all, human beings are the creatures that only believe in what they want to believe.
She knew, definitely.
And she left, all alone.
Just like him.
Getting on the plane, she put her cello right beside her seat—Yes, she had to buy a ticket for it, even though she can wrap it and put it into the luggage check-in, but it’s not good for the instrument. She decided to take it with her, as a friend.
The “noises” won’t stop unless people are all sleeping. Alice leaned on the seat, feeling tired.
She could not sleep, even if it was “quiet” now.
What a miserable thing to her……hearing all the things she does not like.
The tedious sound of the plane made her fearsome grow.
It’s her dream to play the cello in front of the audience……but now she was trembling in front of the audience and couldn’t even take her fiddlestick steadily.
Till she met Joe, again.
When they saw each other, what they first saw from their eyes is, surprised and fearsome.
Joe started the conversation, “why are you here?I thought……”
“I’m going abroad to study,” said Alice, “Just like you.”
There was a flame in Joe’s blue eyes, but then, the flame faded.
“You don’t know the reason why I’m leaving, do you?” said Joe.
“Yes, I do,” said Alice.
“Because when you left, I can feel exactly the same thing as you told me before—I couldn’t believe it, but now I got your point.”
Joe looked confused.
“I can hear from other people’s heart now, so I know why you’ve left before.”
“I’m sorry. I should have encouraged you, instead of letting you go see a doctor— that’s why God do this to me, I think.” Alice said, calmly.
“Are you feeling well, Alice?” Joe asked.
“I’m fine.”, said Alice, staring at Joe’s eyes.
“I feel like…… I can’t hear the voices from your heart. Isn’t it weird?”
Joe looked at her and said, “Neither can I.”
“Maybe,” said Alice touching her cello, “I said MAYBE, we can play the cello and the violin together—do you want to try”
“Of course,” said Joe, “It’s been a long time for me not even touching the violin. But with you, I feel much better.”
