1、Prologue ...
-
A girl, young and beautiful, was staring at her mirror.
Her handmaid picked up a blue rose in the garden and decorated it on her mistress’s headwear.
The girl stood up. She had hair like silver, eyes like gold and creamy skin. She wore a long blue gown with pearls and diamonds and gems. Dazzling but cold, just like herself.
It was so heavy, the dress and all the ornaments on it. So heavy that Hedwig could hardly stay on her feet. She steadied herself and begin walking slowly towards the door.
“Who is this boy lord I’ll be marrying to” She asked when she was out in the corridor.
“Draco Malfoy from House Slytherin.” The handmaid Lysia answered. “He has got a knighthood.” Her tone was full of admiration.
“Oh,” Hedwig cursed as she nearly stumbled on her skirt.
The Hall was inundated with sounds. Music flowed out of harps and spinets played by minstrels. Ladies sat in small groups chatting. Waiters were hurrying. Their footsteps disordered and heavy.
But all was silent when the guards opened the big oak door for Hedwig. Voices died down, all except the gasps of the guests and her father’s deep, echoing command.
“My dear, come here.”
She did. As soon as she took the first step, a marshal called out: ” Welcome Hedwig Misrell, princess of Hogwarts!” There were clapping sounds. Most guests stood up.
“She is so beautiful!” A woman sighed.
Then a man laughed.
“So this is the princess. Do you like her, Draco”
“Yes.” A boy replied.
Hedwig pretended that she didn’t hear them. She just looked up at her father who was sitting on that golden throne of his. King Misrell had a grim face that never smiled, the old wet nurse told her when Hedwig was still a little girl. It was true.
“Sit beside me, my sweet daughter.”
But his voice had no warmth inside. Neither did his grey eyes.
When Hedwig stopped in front of her chair, she greeted the guests who are sitting at the host table with courtesy: ”Welcome to the King’s Castle, Lord Lucius, Lady Narcissa and Draco of House Malfoy, Slytherine.”
Lord Lucius was a man with pale blond hair. He looked handsome, as noble as her father. Lady Narcissa had golden hair like her husband, but parts of it were black. Her lips curled tightly when Hedwig studied her. Sir Draco was much more vigorous though, perhaps it was because he was younger, only eighteen or so. And the man beside him...
She remembered. He was the man who asked Draco whether he likes her or not---Sir Severus Snape, a vassel of Slytherine. He got a high cheekbone. His face was stone cold and not so comfortable to look upon. Curly black hair dropped to his shoulders.
Hedwig had no more time. She seated herself and wondered why Lord Lucius and his family hadn’t stand up and say his words of courtesies. The only possible explanation was that he might be too proud and powerful to do so.
The feast begin immediately. Roast chickens, pumpkins with mead...but Hedwig had no apetite to eat any of them. She just sipped her cup of lemon juice with a gracious and fake smile.
Then she noticed that someone was glancing at her. It was Draco. He seemed to be the only one who didn’t ignore her completely.
