　　已经在另一个世界的莱塔睁开眼睛。烟雾散尽后，她发现这里是国王十字车站——明亮的玻璃穹顶，喷着蒸汽的火车，一切看起来都这么熟悉。
　　她选择一列火车登上去，在穿过浓浓的白雾后，火车驶到了田间。这就是在帷幔之后那片绿色的原野。她激动地站起来，贴在窗户上细细搜寻。
　　可她什么也没有找到。寂静的原野上一个人影也没有。她甚至找到了一棵极其相似的大山毛榉树，可是树下空荡荡的，没有那个黑发少年和他的笑容。
　　列车到站了。她跳下火车，看到了小天狼星之前所说的那些人中的四个——莉莉、詹姆、唐克斯和莱姆斯。她又仔细搜寻了一圈——
　　没有小天狼星。
　　莉莉和玛丽就像在霍格沃茨一样热情地告诉她这个那个。玛丽一个劲地追问她现在外面的世界是什么样子的——在这个地方，这是他们唯一获取外界信息的方式。
　　她告诉他们战争已经结束了，新的世界已经建立起来。她告诉詹姆和莉莉他们的儿子很好，现在是一名傲罗指挥官。一群人开开心心地走到镇子里，走到那条她曾经在河对岸看过的繁华街道。
　　“维娜！”维拉看到她后惊喜地说，“没想到这么快就能碰到你。”
　　这就是小天狼星所说的那个卷发女孩吧。她身后的托尔德微笑着看向她和维拉。
　　她暂住在了维拉的家中——这是一栋紧靠河岸的房子。她得到了一个靠窗的房间，正对着河岸。房间的墙壁上贴着印有淡紫色小花的壁纸。
　　接近傍晚的时候，她独自来到河边。她试着跨过河流，可一股无形的力量将她反弹回来。她一下子跌在地上。
　　小天狼星一定在河对岸嘲笑她吧，她歪着脑袋，整理好衣服，用手臂环住腿。
　　“你看，小天狼星，我现在也到了这个镇子。我知道你在每个傍晚都会在彼岸，看着这边的灯火。”
　　“可是你怎么会孤单呢？你听得到我说话，看得到我。应该觉得孤单的人是我才对啊。”
　　“以后每天傍晚，我们都可以坐在这里。听不到你说话也没关系，我能猜得到你说什么。”
　　“我来给你唱首歌吧。在前几年麻瓜很流行这首歌，好像是什么‘电影’里面的。我始终没弄明白电影是什么，都是威廉米娜告诉我的——她是我的侄女。”
