2、ending ...

  • The sunshine is like the warm touch of a mother’s hand who offers comfort to her child. The birds are busy singing from the treetops while the aroma of flowers filled the air. On this quiet and still day where the locals are strolling through the park, a man races through the garden as though someone is chasing after him. At the end of the path, there is a tattered apartment and quickly rushes through the front door and up the creaky stairs to get inside of his flat.
Just above the sofa, there should have been a classic Monet-style painting of two men laying in the grass and gazing at the clouds that is filled with dreams. However, Wayne entered the living room stepping onto the broken pieces that blanketed the floor. His lover, William was waiting for him on the pink sofa. He looked very calm, but he was busy picking at his fingernails with a sense of uneasiness.
“Wayne, I’m sorry, but we should break up,” William said in a low and sad voice.
“Why William! You said we will be together forever” Wayne revealed in anger, “I just don’t understand why you would want to end our relationship after all that we had been through together.”
He said with a frown “I made a lot promises that I cannot keep. I have tried to find the strength and courage to be the person I really am, but the moment I step out that door, everything changes. I am not brave like you. I cannot show the world that I am in love with someone of the same-sex. It crushes me every time.”
“That’s not true. You are always the star of the stage. You are free, brave, and wise. Heads turn every time you walk into the room because people admire and adore you.” Wayne retorted.
“Despite what we have experienced together, we know that the love between you and me is wrong. It is completely wrong! We have not been accepted by our friends and our family!”William said firmly.
Wayne stumbled back and sat on a raggedy and torn arm chair. He had no words because he knew that William was right but refused to give up.
“The world is not ready for people like us. I do not want to face or have to deal with homophobics. They are relentless and will make our lives a living hell. There is no point in trying to fight a losing battle.” William’s mood suddenly changed. Yet this change wasn’t for the better. William was willing to sacrifice a piece of himself in order to fit in with those that appeared to be normal. He insisted, “I hope you can also change. I hope that you can find the love of your life and be able to experience what it means to have a ‘normal’ relationship. You can do anything that you like when you are paired with a partner of the opposite sex. You can hold hands with your girlfriend anywhere and everywhere you go. You can dance in the street, and kiss without worrying about getting beaten or ridiculed. Oh, that is the dream I would like to live.
William closed the door of Wayne’s apartment. In Wayne’s mind, he knows that William was influenced by the environment. William abandoned him to face that harsh and cruel life alone.
